About Your Teacher

Taught by someone who has actually lived the language

I'm Alisa, and I hold HSK6, the highest level of China's official Chinese proficiency exam, the same standard used to judge near-native fluency in reading, writing, and listening. I've lived and worked in China, not just studied the language from a textbook, and that's the difference I bring into every lesson.

How lessons work

Every student's reason for learning Mandarin is different, and lessons are built around that reason rather than a fixed textbook path. A traveller preparing for a trip needs something quite different to a professional preparing for a client meeting, and both need something different again to someone learning simply for the love of it.

Lessons focus on real spoken fluency first, tones, natural rhythm, and genuine conversation, with reading and writing brought in at whatever pace actually suits your goal.

Seven years in Beijing

Seven years living in Beijing meant genuinely discovering the hidden rules, the unwritten social cues no textbook teaches, the small things that actually matter in a real conversation or a real relationship, not just the grammar behind it.

I loved living there. I made real, lasting friendships, and that's what shapes how I teach, not a detached academic view of the language, but a genuine, lived-in understanding of the culture it belongs to.
